The Design Committee is committed to help maintain the Historic nature of our downtown. We are here to help existing businesses in the community, as well as, encourage new business development through out the community. Our group designs the Historic West Newton Calendar each year showcasing our rich history. We have also designed the Historic Downtown Self-guided Walking Tour for those who visit our community. The committee will continue to work with the borough in 2017 to enhance the streetscape, to promote our downtown properties, to improve traffic flow and to preserve our rich historic assets. The Promotions Committee had a banner year in 2016. Our group kicked the off the year with our Annual Pledge Drive in the Community. We would like to Thank All of you that made a contribution. Then came our Spring Pork Chop dinner with a huge turn out as usual. Thank you Gary’s Chuck Wagon for making that possible. The group in conjunction with the West Newton Senior Center held our Health Fair in July. Fall brought us our First Annual Brew and Food Fest at Simeral Square with great entertainment from Shot of Soul and beer by Bloom Brew. October is the month for the Annual Rocktoberfest Car and Bike Cruise at Vine Street Park. This year we had great weather and over 100 vehicles on display. To end the year who cant wait for Christmas. Our Miracle on Main Street Festival ” Candy Cane Lane ” brought out over 1500 people to see the parade and shop the Christmas Market and Main Street businesses. All in all we had a successful year. Thank you for helping make our events number one in the Mon Valley. If you would like to join our group to help bring new events to the community please give us a call at 724-872-0100
In December 2012, DWNI began construction of Simeral Square, it was a long process, but it was worth the wait. This beautiful riverfront park greets visitors every day to West Newton’s downtown business district. The park sits right next to the historic steel bridge that has brought travelers to the town for over 100 years. Our park has played host to numerous activities such as craft and farmers’ markets, arts and entertainment, and good old relaxation. Simeral Square is designed as a gateway to bring people into the community and allow them to enjoy the activities, shopping, dinning, community pool and library plus much much more this historic community has to offer. The Simeral Square Committee would love to have you as a member if this is your passion. If you would like to join the group please give us a call at 724-872-0100.
If you are interested in renting Simeral Square out for an event please give our office a call to discuss the details at 724-872-0100
